Rise and shine, its a beach day

Bureh Beach, Sierra Leone

Bureh beach, Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone’s Freetown Peninsula is lined with stunning beaches, but our favorite of the bunch was this one in Bureh, which we walked to from the Tribewanted eco-resort. Studded with palm trees and backed by a river and jungly hills, Bureh at high tide is the area’s surfing beach, but the warm waves were gentle both times we visited. We fell in love with Bureh for its idyllic setting and sweet oysters, which we bought from Tom, an entrepreneurial local diver–and for the fact that we always had it entirely to ourselves. It was heaven.
