Guest writer, Amrita Evans, shares her favorite beaches in Europe.
Choosing where to go in Europe can be difficult since there are so many interesting countries with fantastic coastlines to explore. Lucky for you I’ve picked my favourites to help you decide. Tip: if you book in the run-up or run-down after the summer peak season to can find better rates.
If you’re really having trouble deciding where to go, a cruise might be the perfect solution. If you book in advance, they can be very affordable. Never done a cruise before? Cruise agents are friendly and give great advice or check out these cruise tips for some extra information.
But back to my top three:
Navagio Beach – Zakynthos, Greece
This is one of the most popular beach destinations in Greece, and there’s a good reason for that. Surrounded by sheer cliff faces, Navagio is a tiny cove of golden sand fading into exquisite turquoise waters. Also known as Shipwreck Bay, this beach is only reachable by hourly boats leaving from the mainland. Tourists tend to flock here during the summer, so if you want to experience it with a little breathing room, think about going towards the end of spring or in early autumn so you can still enjoy decent weather.
Cala d’en Serra, Ibiza
Ibiza is well known for the stunning beachscape of Salinas, which is dotted with funky bars and restaurants – enough to keep any keen tourist happy for weeks on end! But if you’re looking for something a bit more peaceful, there are plenty of remote coves that will provide you with a taste of tranquility, Cala d’en Serra is one such nirvana. First glimpsed through the dense pine forest that surrounds it, this beach is a charming horseshoe of white sand. The startling mountains that closely hug its edges provide a perfect curtain to make visitors feel completely cut off from the outside world.
Spiaggia Sabbie Nere, Vulcano, Italy
If you’re looking for something a bit different, Spiaggia Sabbie Nere is definitely worth checking out. The startling black sands are a leftover of the area’s volcanic past and make for a truly unique beach experience. Holidaymakers keen to give this beach a try can catch a ferry to the island of Vulcano, which is just north of the beautiful town of Sicily. Given the impressive scenery, there’s no shortage of fantastic photo opportunities here.
